At Tristate Karate, now located in Cresaptown at the Wesleyan Church gymnasium, we offer a combined study of both Tang Soo Do and Tae Kwon Do.  Our curriculum includes extensive study of forms, technical kicks, fighting combinations, sparring skills and self defense techniques with a strong emphasis on discipline, respect and academic achievement.

    This curriculum helps one to achieve excellent physical fitness, self confidence, respect for others and a strong work ethic as well as the unsurpassed ability to defend oneself and his or her loved ones.  At the A.M.A.A. we take the safety of our students very seriously.  We take every precaution to provide a safe and healthy learning environment while teaching the skills necessary for our students to protect themselves throughout their lives outside the dojang.

Tristate Karate Curriculum Technical Requirements

Note to students:  In addition to all technical requirements listed below, a consistently high level of participation, performance and respect for both your instructors and your classmates is required during ALL classes in order to be eligible for promotion.  This means your attention should be on your instructor at ALL times during discussion.  You should be in a proper stance (Shio, Charyot or Joonbi) at ALL times.  And you should maintain a high degree of individual focus during performance of your techniques.  Daily observation of these requirements in addition to performance of all technical requirements will determine a student's eligibility to graduate to his or her next belt level.

Minimum time and class attendance required for advancement.  White thru Blue Advanced 3-4 months with 28 classes minimum to be eligible for pretest for each belt.  Red / Red Advanced 3-6 months.  Brown / Brown Advanced belt 6 months with 56 class minimum each level to be eligible for pretest.  Final promotion is contingent on passing of pretest.

 

           Prebelt / Probational:

            Must learn basic etiquette and proper dojang protocol.

            Must have a minimum of 21 classes by final exam.

            Must be able to perform white belt basics to a Korean  6 count.

            White Belt Basics are performed as listed under the white belt curriculum and done facing left then facing right.

Physical Endurance required:   20 push ups, 30 crunches, 100 jumping jacks

Sparring:  2 - 1 minute rounds with 30 second rest

Blue Belt:______________________________________________________

Technical kick: 6 count Double Round / Double Side Kick

Combinations: 

1.  Offensive reverse hook kick, back leg round kick, back punch

Self Defense:  All previous techniques, hair pull front and rear

Physical Endurance required:   25 push ups, 35 crunches, 100 jumping jacks

Sparring:  2 minute round

Advanced Blue Belt:============================

Technical kick: 6 count Double Round / Double Side Kick

Combinations:  Blue Belt Combinations perfectly

Forms:  Pyung Ahn Sa Dan & Pyung Ahn Oh Dan - Tang Soo Do

Self Defense:  mastery of previous techniques

Physical Endurance required:   25 push ups, 35 crunches, 100 jumping jacks

Sparring:  2 minute round

Red Belt:_______________________________________________________

Technical kick: 9 count Front / Round / Side / Hook Kick

Combinations: 

1.  Offensive reverse crescent kick, back punch, back leg round house kick, back punch

Form:  Toi-Gye - Tae Kwon Do  (Tae Kwon Do - Toi Gye)

Advanced Red Belt:============================

Form:  All previous forms, Bassai - Tang Soo Do & Chung Mu - Tae Kwon Do  (Tae Kwon Do - Hwa Rang)

Self Defense:  All previous techniques, 3 - knife attacks (straight stab, downward & cross strike), 4 - gun threats (front & back of head, front and rear of chest), stick strike, defense from punch, defense from side kick.

Physical Endurance required:   35 push ups, 50 crunches, 100 jumping jacks

Sparring:  3 - 2 minute rounds with 1 minute rests

Advanced Brown Belt:===========================

Technical kick: mastery of all previous technical kicks

Combinations:  mastery of all previous combinations

Forms:  All previous forms, Niahanchi Cho Dan & Jion - Tang Soo Do  (Tae Kwon Do - Chung Mu)

Self Defense:  Mastery of all previous technuiques

Physical Endurance required:   35 push ups, 50 crunches, 100 jumping jacks

Sparring:  5 consecutive 2 minute rounds with 1 minute rests between
